Sure feels good to get a good pick up of this. Any guesses? Can't wait to get it stacked and split, gotta cut a bit of it down to size. Also I hope to ask someone who turns here, I've got an idea but need a bit of questions if they'll get me somewhere. I'll be back for more tomorrow while the weather is good. I
I love that stuff too but this isn't it. I should show you some plum I got. Beautiful purple red color. It's a shame I'm smoking with it but I couldn't turn it into a project tree or boards.
Yes you guys got it. I picked up another load of it today. Smaller truck full this time but I didn't bring my saw to get the larger pieces Needs some maintenance etc. Quite frankly this is the wood that I'll be a "snob" about but more so I don't turn it down because I have more uses for it. Plan to cut this stuff up and give it to locals who love to make ribs, chops and shoulders into gastro-bites.
I'll have to get some close ups. Funny how some of this stuff will blur some species because of how young it looks in limbs but the main trunk is what gets that "scaly" looking bark. In fact young Apple and Alder bark look very much alike in some species then the older it gets. Apple gets scales then Alder stays somewhat smooth and then puts out ridges. Think white birch but not as pronounced when it ages and the "paper" smooth bark is mostly on new limbs. Also I've noticed that Apple trees depending on some factors tend to die and rot inside before they get huge. The tree this came from was about 15" -/+ DBH and was still at least 12 feet high. They were gonna let me know if they eventually bring it down altogether but at first looked like a pruning to get things under control.
This is from an entirely different tree but still an apple a little l more than 6 inches wide but the trunk wasn't huge. Grew tall 8-9' but peter out at an age. Rings need to be counted with a fresh cut.
I need to see myself if I can source any ; new smoker is here so now there is a new need for different wood.
