A few years ago one Pallet Pete brought us some beech he had just cut. As I was getting wood I noticed one piece that was sort of out of place. Ah ha! A beech. Pete, do you remember when you gave that to me? I'm quite sure most of that beech is in the next row and we won't get to that this year. Next year it will burn nicely though. Can you spot the one beech split?
Yup I remember that. Center of the picture! Sorta.. It was a fair trade I’d say! Although I can’t remember what the trade was anymore I think maybe it was for the ash you gave us after the theft?
Do you remember what year that was Pete? I'm quite sure it was either 2013 or 2014 but don't remember which.
I like me some beech....I have been working on fair amount of it this year, I think it is 5 years old and burns spectacular.
Sticks out like a sore thumb. In a good way. It's damm fine firewood if you haven't burned it. It makes oak look bad. I think you'll find there's more than 1 beech split in that stack. . I burn a lot of beech. I can see the beech branch pieces in there too being the 1 super obvious split. My dog Badger loves beech. He loves eating the bark from beech. He doesn't mess with other bark of other trees. Odd huh?
Back when I was pretty new to this wood hoarding thing I passed on several trees worth of beech. I didn't know what it was...no beech up at the farm...and the thin fragile bark made it seem like it would be garbage. Besides... I had just gotten a stash of white birch... and some of the willow that blew over in the storm. I'm set for winter.this Willow chit is heavy. Gonna burn great. And some silver maple from an extensive trim of a tree in my yard. I'm good. Keep it, I'm fine. Idiot.
Yes, there is more in there and yes, we've burned it before but it has been a long time since we've had any. That is why Pete gave it to us.
Willow goes to the fire pit or the burn/brush pile here. Hauled some to the OWB one year and told myself to never do that again!
Willow doesn't even make it onto my property. After this past year's experiences, neither does cottonwood. I never thought I'd be a wood snob but there are some places even I won't go.
