I went to the back of my property where i have some brush piles. I had a goal to light a fire with just my lighter and this gerber machete in the snow. I cut down a small diameter dead seasoned by nature pine and some small dead saplings. I keep this tool on my atv for mountain laurel and small branches. Im pretty dissatisfied with this blade. I feel like i wasn’t abusing it and when i got home to oil it and sharpen it I noticed the blade was real bad.
Wouldn't hurt to send them an email. Definitely sounds like you were using it for what it was designed for so you might have acquired a defective one.
I highly recommend Benchmade. Made in USA w/ lifetime warranty and their customer service is top tier. Benchmade 153 Jungle Machete 9.69 Bolo Point 1095 Spring Steel Blade You might pay more but IMO it's worth it to support an American made product. I have 2 BM's and love them.
Wow that edge looks like it really took a beating for doing nothing but what it was suppose to be made for. I believe that Gerber is located in Portland Oregon. I think I would send them a few pictures.
ontario knife works. There is nothing else many places to buy this Ontario OKC 1-18" Military Machete Fixed Blade Knife (Black) - Blade HQ
Drunk roommate tried to attack me with one of those many years ago. Glad to hear I wasn't in any danger!
Better tool for that it the woodsmans pal look them up they are made in boyertown Pa Quite a few of my customers have them JB
I've got one of those that hangs on my mule, but it doesn't look like that. I got it with points at Bass pro years ago. I like the saw side. I'd call 'em, then send 'em a picture. Who knows?
Both Gerber and Leatherman tools are located in the Portland, OR area, for 18 years I used to work less than 2 miles from the Leatherman plant. I was a Leatherman customer for many years before that, and still am. Leatherman is like Craftsman tools were, broken tool? Here’s a New tool, have a Nice Day. SOME of Gerber tools are American made, but not all. To the Best of my knowledge, All Leatherman Tools are American made, but I don’t know if they are all 100% produced in Portland. Doug
If that's the Gerber Gator Jr., on Cabela's it had some bad reviews. ★★★★★1 out of 5 stars. · 6 months ago Stamped out of aluminum? I wasn't expecting much for the price, but this thing is cheap... it nicked the blade just testing it on a piece of white pine 1x2 out in my garage... chopping along the grain... CHIP! And it looks like it's been stamped out of an aluminum sheet in some factory in China... Handle is REALLY cheap plastic. ✘ No, I do not recommend this product. Originally posted on basspro.com ★★★★★★★★★★1 out of 5 stars. · 6 months ago Soft edge machete Hour into vines and green branches the edge warped and split. No way this is hardened or tempered correctly. ✘ No, I do not recommend this product. Originally posted on basspro.com ★★★★★★★★★★2 out of 5 stars. · 8 months ago I used to equate "Gerber" to quality... Sorry folks, this item is more like a toy. A DANGEROUS toy, but a toy in it's lack of quality. The blade appears to actually be stamped out of sheet metal and then sharpened on one side. I think this might go through rotted zombie flesh okay, but in the real world? I'm afraid to tackle anything more than twigs and blackberry thickets in the back yard. Where are the GOOD machetes you'd use in the JUNGLE?! ✘ No, I do not recommend this product.
I have one of those out in the chicken barn. The same thing happened when I was clearing brush. I did sharpen it on a smaller grinding wheel but it is not a great tool. I have a gerber deer processing kit that I like but this didn't hold up so well. The deer kit is kinda soft but it has been good for chicken killing. I did use the machete to shew away a possum that i found in the compost pile. Does that count as being effective?
