5 year old hickory, when i found this at the bottom of the pile people listening would have thought i found a bag of money. Bottom of tge pile up off the ground 3 16 foot med size shagbark hickory logs. Bark is gone and coming in at a whopping 14%. Little rounds were pretty heavy. I shared some with Joe, i couldnt resist making some 2 footers for the beast. Everything in the back of the truck are 2 footers with alot of exterior crumbs but perfect for the boiler. Nice cherry on the gate too.
Thought you were going to say that it’s too far gone to sell. Yeah. That’s some good wood and will throw some heat!! I keep burning the new found dead and down wood so my hickory will probably end up being 7 years old by the time I get to it.
When i was looking at my house to buy i got out if the car and saw a waterfall and then i walked into the kitchen and saw the indoor bbq built in to the opposite side of the wood stove. I looked at my wife and realtor and said yup my mind is made up. I have tons of hickory on my land and i also make small bits and pieces for my electric smoker. Im sure you saw i recently scored some apple too. Im loving life rt now
There's a few woods that I RARELY let slip through my hands.....Hickory is one of them...... So is locust, white oak, standing dead red oak, apple, hedge, black birch........yeah, I've got issues!!
Love the smell of it burning, it puts out big BTU's too. The black birch I took down a month ago was absolutely MISERABLE to split, almost as bad as elm that I've done.....
It dries really fast and compares to oak without the long dry time and the weight. Im selling some from my quarry scrounge last year and i kept it stacked in single rows. Its beautiful wood now
Amazingly, no. It was at a big campground, it was a 70' tall forest tree, barely any limbs at all. All kept was the trunk. It was around 20" dbh.
I ran into some largish black birch rounds that I had to zip the bark on, to get it split. The bark was very tough!
