Well I have my project for Wednesday, replace the HW heater, luckily the rehab I recently bought has a brand new 40 gallon RUUD in it that I am not going to use. It is already disconnected so I just need to go and pick it up. As usual the shutoffs are bad so I will need to shut off the house and drain everything. I am figuring about 4 hours wish me luck.

    Luck!!

Only advice I could give, you probably already know.. make sure you have everything you need (and a few things you don't) on hand before beginning.

Otherwise, it should be a fairly straightforward install. I'm sure you got this.

Good luck.. Yup Shut off are always bad.. I've been accused of putting in too many.. Blasphemy, I say.. I never do plumbing in house I am keeping without adding 2 at least.. I've been accused of overkill though;)

I completely agree.. there is NO overkill in adding more shutoff's.
Perhaps wasted money, but it's one of those things that when needed, no-one has ever said
"Ya know.. there was just one too many shutoffs to close."

yes when I replace plumbing in my rehabs I always strategically place a couple in the main lines so if any shutoffs need replaced you won't have to shut down the whole house.

If you have the money.. I'd replace everything I could see with PEX piping.
You'd save yourself some hassle in the long run, and perhaps only have to deal with the plumbing once in your lifetime.

We've gotten a small leak out in the pump room, and I do intend to replace all the piping with PEX as it holds up better than CPVC, which is sagging severely.

I’d like to do same with ours, as we have galvanized with several cpvc feeds...
Would you go with crimp rings or Shark/Gator fittings Chaz ?

I've redone two houses with pex now, the crimp rings are the way to go.
I used the pocket crimper for all of them, much cheaper than the dedicated crimper in each size. It is also easier to fit vice grips instead of the long crimper handles

SharkBites (brass) are way to expensive for plumbing a whole house!
    They are $5-10 a piece .

    (I'm a copper kinda guy)

just finished cleaning up, started a t 8am ran over to rehab house and picked up the new heater. I then drained and removed the old heater, took while to drain so I disconnected every thing while waiting. Still draining so I took a mental list of what I might need, only 2 fittings. I ran to Lowes and when I got back it was empty, so I picked it up and carried it out to the back porch. Brought new one in and set in place, connected hot and cold water lines, started filling, connected gas line, T&P valve, fired her up and bled upstairs of air.
No leaks, water is heating, getting ready for lunch, should be able to shower when done eating.
