Hey guys, I recently got a century cw2900 wood stove and a friend told me I should seal it with insulation with out paper backing, is this the best thing to seal with? By sealing I mean between the stove and the original fire place opening. Thanks for all your help guys!
Do you mean between the brick and the surround? What works better is stuffing Roxul above and below the old damper and add a metal plate to prevent heat loss and drafts. Like this-
O that looks good! Ya I guess I am looking for something to take up the gap between the brick fire place opening and the insert to keep from loosing heat from the house up the chimney. Thanks for the info on not using fiberglass! I will pick up some roxul.
The roxul will get nasty and full of crap. I would just use the insulation that is for behind surrounds
Mine came with some like foil backed strips that were adhesive. It was a generic thing it looked like.
Once you get a full liner in the chimney, then do as jatoxico shows. I'm going from an open FP to a quadrafire insert this weekend. I don't have a nice plate like jatoxico shows, not yet at least but I'll make one, probably a 2 piece unit so I don't have to monkey with removing pipe from the insert.
I didn't have one at first. Made a big difference after I did. Stuffed around the liner as much and as high as I could then filled the smoke shelf/chamber and all the way down to the plate. Much better heat retention and cleaner liner. Used to get decent amount of black crunchies now get less brown ash.
