I have had problems with plantar fasciitis for years. Does anyone have ancient family secrets they are willing to share on how you take care of foot problems? I have been battling a flare up for a month now and am sick of hobbling everywhere with so much to get done before the snow flies.
Epsom salts????? Watching this one like a hawk. My feet have been protesting my belly for years. Hey Doc, hook us up.
Here is an "Official" thread from the Mayo Clinic site: Plantar fasciitis Treatments and drugs - Mayo Clinic I had trouble with mine years back from wearing "fashionable" dress shoes at work that did not give enough support. Eventually got it under control by wearing good athletic type shoes instead while at work, and Crocs everywhere else. Before I took that first step out of bed in the morning I sat on the edge of the bed and did a stretching routine (toes toward your shin stretching everything out while rubbing), then stepped into my Crocs. The big feet in the middle are mine!
I have custom orthotics but this set just doesn't feel right. I had a set that wore out that I loved. We moved and I went to a local foot guy and the old doc is far enough to not be an option. I may try a different doc but want to find other things that people do other than the orthotics. Do any of you do stretching, massage, chiropractic, running, acupuncture, ice, heat or hell even amputation? I know I need to lose weight but it is tough to do that and be limited in mobility.
1) Proper arch supports ("orthotics") in shoes that will support them, good quality athletic shoes if possible. If they're rolled over or floppy the shoes won't support the arches. 2) Night splint. Read up on how to use them. http://www.amazon.com/Plantar-Fascitis-Night-Splint-Brace/dp/B001PB07S8 3) Fill a 20oz soda bottle with water and freeze it. Roll your foot over the frozen bottle on the floor 3 times a day to stretch it and ice it. 4) Runners stretch. Number 4 here: Stretching for runners 5) if 1-4 above don't help, it might be time for new orthotics or even a cortisone injection. Talk to your medical professional first. This is not medical advice. I am not a lawyer and did not stay at a Holiday Inn last night. Blah blah blah.
I had what I thought were bone spurs a few years ago. Didn't go to the Dr., but I bought a new pair of running shoes.....good ones, not the $20 special at Wallys. Kept 'em laced so they were supporting my feet, and ankles. Helped me tremendously. I've recently been having a lot of knee issues.......again.....and just bought a decent pair of running shoes. Knees don't hurt nearly as much, yet again. There's always some pain (I was lucky enough to inherit bad bones or something), but I'm not hobbling around like I had been. Losing even just a few pounds has also helped. I'm at least 30 lbs overweight, and when I lose just 10, things improve. I have a bad habit of not tying my laces, which means my feet are flopping around in the shoes. Not much point in good shoes if I don't wear them correctly.
