I know that's a loaded question with lots of variables like split size outside temp firebox size and so on. In 24 hours I burn, on average, 12 splits and if it really cold I burn up 16, that's 8 @ 7am. And 8 @ 7pm. Inquiring minds want to know!
I think I burn around 16 to 20. With medium splits I can put four in the stove, assuming some coals are in the bottom, and I load four or five times per day when burning 24/7. I also burn some smaller splits at the same time.
Been thinking about this recently.......again. Mid-20's, maybe 20 splits. Colder, more like 25, but it really varies so much, it's like trying to shoot a flying duck with a pea shooter. I suppose one could keep tabs on all of it. Yesterday, it got up to mid-twenties. I had loaded the stove with 7 splits at 8am, and I didn't reload until about 4pm. Won't be able to go that long today. I was doing at least 30 in the old stove, in similar temps. On Monday the 8th, I took a sharpie and marked 100 splits of Oak. I'm hoping those last until the 13th, but we're getting a cold snap, so I doubt they'll go that long.
With temps like this ( single digits ) I can stay warm loading 6 splits every 5 hours or so... Almost 30 to a 24 hour cycle
Depends on the outside conditions, keeping the house (1200 sf ranch with a full basement) at around 70-72 usually 5 splits in the morning before work three when I get home at 4pm and 5 more before bed each one being equivalent to a 3" round and that's when it's pretty cold out
I burn about 2- 2.5 cubic feet per day if burning 24/7. I split by hand so the size varies according to how the wood is splitting. It doesn't make sense in my situation to keep track by splits.
So far today I've put in 9 splits. Will put 5 more in before sacking out tonight. Temperature right now is 19 with NW wind at 16-25 mph. Snow showers. Feels colder than that.
'Normal' winter temps and I add about 10-11 splits per load (3 loads per day), so 30 or so per day. Bitter cold and I'm pushing for a 4th load - so 40-45/day - but that happens pretty rarely - I'd guess 5 or so times per season. Cheers!
just counted my inside wood rack holds about 24 splits. our normal weather 15 deg. nights 25 days. lasts day and half. with cold coming tonight highs of 0 lows to -15 til Monday pretty sure burn a rack a day. rack is 26 inches high (not counting legs) and 24 wide for reference.
I see what you did there... I've been in "shoulder mode" for all but about 2 weeks out of this winter so far; only running 1-2 loads per day. Typically 5-7 splits per load, depending on the size of the splits. When it stays below 30 I'll add a 3rd, and when it stays below that, I'll add in some locust. I've got a 1300sqft ranch and my stove is probably a little oversized for it, but it heats with it real nice. My furnace hasn't come on in 2 years.
I would say 18-20 splits. But wait a minute, I thought most of the stoves on here could burn for 24 hours on 3-4 splits? You mean some people might be exaggerating.
Not here, a 24hr burn is a full belly, I count 20 here. That's a 24 hr low and slow load for this warm winter's days.
In 24 hrs about 16 to 20 I guess, or less depending on the size of the splits, this cold week will be more, I will have to burn a third load
Usual day is about 13 or 14 splits. 5 in the morning, 3 or 4 smaller splits in the evening, then 5 for the night.
I'm not sure how many I burn per day. For the most part I load the stove twice. I'm out of work early though so a full load at 130 pm isn't ideal. It will end up being too far into the burn on the overnight. So occasionally I'll put a third small load in around 2pm so I can reload around 6pm.
