How do you clean your chimney?

    I have two stoves in the house both Vermont Castings and a Lopi in the garage. Metal 6" flue pipe on all. I clean my chimney each year but don't use a brush. I go up on the roof and drop my cleaning appliance down and raise it up and down 20-30 times. My cleaning appliance is an old pair of jeans where I cut the leg off and filled it with smooth (rounded) river stoves. I tie wrapped the ends and attached a rope. Doesn't scratch and is smooth but still rubs the soot off the sides. I'll post a picture one of these days. FYI - tried a cat once but the noise was horrible - just kidding.

    Ask my dad.... he did it, dunno how his hand stayed in place. I was 9 at the time.

    I use an Ace branded nylon brush and fiberglass rods...but the neighbor has a few stray kittens hanging around. I suppose i could use some bailer twine to bundle them then attach them to the rods.
    How many kittens do you think it would take to properly clean the flue?:whistle:

    4. They make less noise after being in the freezer overnight. Helps scrape off the hard stuff too.

    So do you put the M80 in first or do you put the cat in first or do you just stuff the cat with the M80?

    The M80 in the cat works with the frozen cat. Soft cats leave more residue than the firewood.

    Thinking of trying the cat trick. Wondering where the best spot to add a thread-sert is if I wanna try with the fiberglass rods? Any suggestions. Guess it depends on frozen or not also. Thread-Serts are cheap so guess I can try many options to see what works best. Pics to follow
