buzz-saw and i are cutting yesterday. While working i spied some logs across the street. Bark had that unmistakable look. Sure enough...its black locust. How did i miss this? Drive by it all the time. Blind curve and on a steeper bank. Quarter mile down the street from me. IMG_4377.JPG Grabbed the few logs, debarked, bucked and loaded. IMG_4381.JPG Four other lengths farther in...had to ask. IMG_4378.JPG I lucked out and homeowner pulling out while we're finishing up. Got the okay for the wood and to park in his driveway. Stopped today and got them out. IMG_4393.JPG IMG_4397.JPG IMG_4396.JPG The load including yesterdays rounds split.

Awesome stuff:yes: How long does BL have to be down before it starts losing its bark? I’m surprised it escaped your watchful eye for so long. Nice job brad!

I was scrounging it back in January that was blown over last August. Some of it had loose bark. A few months in the warm weather and i think it'll loosen up easily. If it stays attached to the rootball it may stay living. This one was a blowover that hit the power lines. Im guessing three years cut.

I can spot the trees from a mile away it seems. The closet BL to this was 50' into the woods and small. Once i spot the standing trees there's usually a score to be had.

A truckload of BL would be worth about $400 bucks here. That's like stumbling upon a winning scratch ticket!

You might be onto something here;) I’d have to find some space in the city though. Pretty sure black locust wouldn’t dig my altitude.

    BL FYI
The national champion bl has almost a 9’ wide trunk. 99’ tall with a 72’ canopy spread
It’s a yard tree in Livingston NY

It’s a rain day so I’m looking up champion trees.
9’ trunk is monster size even for the biggest Oaks.

Worked up about 5 smaller yellow locust trees this evening after work. In-laws pushed out a few with the dozer. They had more poison ivy on them than I care for.

Yet again very nice! I have only gotten locust once, I learned sometimes free isn't worth it when you don't have the right set up and a ex D.O.T (long tv beep censor) turned shariff pulls you over and lies. To make a long story short, 2 lieing cops, 4 tickets, had to unhook my trailer, misses had to barrow a truck and bring our stock trailer and my brother had to come with his trailer. Along with DOT waiting on main road for me to try and leave with my trailer and a trip back the next day to get my trailer after I found out I was lied to, 3 different missed days of work to fight tickets then losing my driver's license for 2 years when I wouldn't pay the fines... I would pick up the dead elm before the locust lol
