As my stihl ear muffs are in need of repair or replacement. I am wondering what the membership uses or recommends. I have been looking at those that have am/fm radios and those that connect to blue tooth. There also some that have microphones that allow you to answer your phone while wearing. So again I'm wondering what the membership uses to protect their hearing while using chainsaw, leaf blower. Other options include the use of earplugs and ear muffs for the best protection

I use ear plugs a good bit, especially running a ported saw. I have some Bose BT headphones I like if I'm by myself on the splitter or mower. Listen to music or answer phone if needed.

I would not want a radio built in because it would have to be too loud to overcome a chainsaw, causing hearing damage. Also, cellphone hookup, nah, getting away from it is good, plus no service in the woods usually anyway. I use high quality ear muffs, forget the brand.

I've been using these since I first started in printing in 1990.

I use a set of electric shooting muffs. Great noise reduction and I can hear the birds/wind when the saw turns off.
I used to use just plain muffs, but the bass note of the saw would always come through. Now it's nice and quiet.
Plugs bother my ears and give me a headache. All my saws are ported.

I just bought a husky helmet with ear muffs and face shield.. They do a pretty good job and the helmet is rather comfortable......

I did too but I find myself only using it to fell. I've never been used to muffs but I think I need more time to evaluate.

As stated in a different thread, I like my 3M Worktunes ear muffs, with ear plugs.

Still can hear some music, but definitely good for hearing protection.

Bluetooth enabled, and can receive a call from the cellphone.

After watching both walt and hearing amateur cutter … at the GTG… I won a pair of pants at Dennis GTG a couple years back… I decided to step up and get a helmet…I’m not getting any younger… wounds don’t mend as fast… and I’ve got one job that is down right going to be ugly… with dead limbs… figured I need a little time to get use to it…

    Muffs and plugs.
Playing with liud equipment has contributed to hearing loss (left side as that is the "driver's" side exposure).

I wear a helmet with muffs as well. Since it’s more of an everyday thing for me I sprung for the pfanner protos with integrated ear muffs. I’ve tried about all the helmets out there with a safety rating and the protos is the most comfortable to me. They aren’t cheap but neither is a head injury:

Since my chipper is about as loud as a jet engine I usually choose to double up when I’m running it. I either use foam ear plugs or a pair of wireless isotunes free earbuds so I can listen to music, audiobooks, podcasts, etc. The earbuds fit inside the muffs perfectly.

I either use a set of Howard Leight Sport noise cancelling ear muffs, or the small rubber ear plugs, when I'm in my yard. I use the Howard Leight's when I'm outside my fence, so I can hear other things, when the motors quiet down.

This is what I use, I keep thinking about picking up some bluetooth muffs but none of the reviews have convinced me yet.

Thirty dollar Amazon bluetooth ear buds. They come with a nrr of 27 db and I can listen to music.

Sometimes I run the work tunes muffs if I’m in and out if the noise.

I won’t say this for all, but usually if the muffs or ear buds play music and are designed to block the outside noise, they are better the regular ear buds. The noise reducing one’s help block the outside noise so the music won’t be over a deafening threshold. The plain ear buds don’t do that.

3m Optime 105 peltor ear muffs. I hate crap landing in my ears so I'm not fond of plugs.

I like the 30 - 33db rated ear plugs, some of them are washable. I keep a box at home, all plugs are wrapped in pairs so I have some in the pickup consoles & some in the saw box.

Custom molded, I’ll never go back to disposable. The company I work for has recently implemented double hearing protection for most of the equipment I work around. In the beginning I wasn’t sure if I’d like it or not. I would now never go back to single.
