After having had some issues with my prostate last fall I am finding it more and more difficult to process wood, which really annoys me since I really enjoy the activity. We currently have a Pellet stove and a wood stove. I am thinking of switching out my Englander NC30 for a Summers Heat of its equivalent from HD. My NC 30 is currently attached to a class A 18 feet class A outside and a 4 feet going into a 90 degree double wall pipe inside. Would i need to replace the existing pipe or can I use an insert (3 or 4 inches) to go inside the Class A? by the nature of my question I'm sure most can discern I wont be doing this job myself. LOL.
    thanks

    Franklin

Pellet vent can be adapted to class A rather easily.

    Hi KatwillNY,

Pretty sure most pipe manufacturers have adapters to connect pellet vent to class a piping. Simpson duravent(pelletvent) has one for both 6 and 8 inch stove pipe.

I have the adapter pictured above to convert my 3" pellet pipe to 6 " stove pipe on my Summer's Heat PDVC. The adapter connects at the stove. Virtually a 2 minute job to adapt from 3" to 6 or 8"

Be careful when doubling the size of a flue can lead to creosote problems as well as draft even with a pellets stove forced draft system.

Buying firewood isn't an option where you live? I'd imagine it'd be cheaper than pellets.

yea, all of the above....you can adapt over easily, it should work fine.....evenso, Chris's mention above is valid.....you will still need to clean your chimney and be cognizant that you can still get creosote with an improperly burning pellet stove......some burn more proper than others, and that's all I am saying!

I prefer when possible to run the pellet vent all the way through the class A if it's a straight run. It makes cleaning easier.... I ditched my woodstove for a pellet stove and haven't regretted it one bit. It has cost me a LITTLE more during the cold months for the fuel (I was paying for wood).

If I was retired and could be home to feed the woodstove all the time, I would have stayed that way but being a blue collar chap, I love having a stove that feeds itself.

Class A chimney is what you use any time you pass through a combustible surface ie: a ceiling, a wall, or anything that can burn. Even in a metal building it is what you use to penetrate the roof etc., if done to code.

Oh and the important part, it's made for wood burning appliances

Thank you for the informative posts! I have alot to learn....One masonry chimney to reline, and another one that should be class A but not sure I can call it that since we will be lining the existing older wood stove pipe.

Question. Is class A normally double or triple wall?

    Around here it's called Metalbestos.

Metalbestos was actually a brand name, for the Selkirk company....arguably the largest seller of class A and other products......Metalbestos had two walls, the annular space filled with a insulation

Class A can be either 2 or 3 walls
