I know that papadave has had one. We've came close but so far have held off. Anyone else?

btw, word of early openings of ski resorts are being reported already. If not open, they are making plans to do so soon.

It's not even long pants weather here yet.
Although it was kinda chilly yesterday and we closed all the windows last night.

Nowhere near a first fire here. I did decide to close all the windows except one in my bedroom last night though.

We've had a few mornings when we could have started a fire. When it gets into the 40's at night and 60's during the day it is close to the time for fires.

Yes, we are expected 2 days next week of 80 but notice that the warm spells are getting shorter and shorter. I think last year was on the 21 or 22 of September for our first one (would have to look it up to be exact). That is not far away. Some years it is later than that but sometimes earlier too.

One thing for sure is that if the house is cool and it does not appear it will warm during the day, the fire will be in the stove. Same thing at night. If it is too cool in the house, we'll light a fire. That is why we burn wood; to stay warm and comfortable.

two weeks ago it was 62 inside and humidity at 70% , just a small fire -warmed it up to 68 and dropped humidity to 56% , it was 65 inside and 55 outside when i left the house this morning. maybe another tonight. Rain coming possibly starting Sunday afternoon- likely need a couple small fires next week as it is a rather bleak forecast for most of the week.

Well... Mrs MikeinMa, played golf yesterday. Had refreshments after, outside. No sun. Slight breeze.

She came home, showered, and put on long sleeves, long pants. Sat in heregards chair with a blanket. I was comfortable in a t-shirt and shortsee as it was 68 degrees inside and out.

Long story short, I went out and got an amount of small pieces of wood and fired up the stove. Stayed lit for about 3 hrs, windows open. Go figure.

Just was able to turn off the AC and open windows. Typically here in Virginia my first fire is in the first 2 weeks of October so another month or so. Nights are getting cooler and being by the fire pit is becoming more enjoyable though.
