We've been mega-busy all spring, I haven't been on here much. And I apologize for that. The CONSTANT rain we've had the past several weeks backs my tree removals waaay up, so on decent days I'm burning the candle at both ends nonstop.. That being said, every nice evening this past week or so, we've had backyard fires in the keyhole pit, around 7 in total! Here's a few pics... And we had a 17th birthday bash for my youngest son Dan, a lot of his buddies showed up for a campout and firepit chicken on Saturday night. They set up a projector and played XBOX and enjoyed some movies out by the firepit. Well, the cookout went without a hitch, but they all ended up crashing in the living room due to torrential rain late that night...lol... We've made the best of the rainy spring, and God has graced us with a beautiful morning so far, so we did our annual tradition of vinegar chicken on the pit today (2nd time this weekend), and we're getting ready to sit down and eat. Dad and I, cooking like we do! I've had a few moments to reflect on the holiday and what it means to me. It's said to have started down the road form us here, in Boalsburg, PA. Where widows and relatives of deceased Civil War soldiers would go and put flags on the Graves of these heroes. That flag, Old Glory, she stands for a lot more than we can ever know. The lives it has cost to defend Her, the dreams and hopes that have come to fruition under Her, the ambition and the will to suceed, the desire for something better, the determination of a great group of people from all countries and walks of life coming together to form the greatest nation on earth......man I'm PROUD of that flag and the people who have died and will sacrifice all to defend it!! We owe them everything! Happy Memorial Day, everyone, and God Bless ...
Great times Scott, enjoy them. We are finding out our kids are growing up quick, and even quicker than expected. I've thought a lot of how fortunate we are for our military, and the sacrifices they have made to let us enjoy life. We are truly blessed. That chicken looks fantastic too.
Great Post Scotty Overkill Sometimes it's very easy for people to take for granted the freedoms that we do have in this country. The chicken looked fantastic also.
Happy Memorial Day right backatcha Scott. Nice pics. Memories made... ... ... hope you and all of the FHC family had a great weekend...
Glad.to.see you ate well Scotty! I've laid low most of the weekend, but fit in a little of everything today. Started with a Memorial Day parade that my stepdaughters high school marching band was in. Short procession to the cemetery where they had a very nice memorial ceremony. Lots of reflection on my grandfather following that. Both my wife and I had a grandfather that forged their birth certificate to enlist in the navy to go kick Hitlers azz. I'm not sure how old her grandfather was, but mine was 15. I then think of my 15yo, and reflect on myself at that age....and I can't imagine making that kind of decision. They were true badass' ......that entire "greatest generation"
They certainly were the greatest generation! God Bless you and your wife's grandfathers, they are both heroes in my book. Thanks for sharing that story!
