Hand splitting

Getting a little fat lately watching it rain Took a few minutes with the maul for some ash breaking. It doesn’t take long to remember why I bought a premium splitter. Good day though

 

Easy work for the Fiskars and a nice workout for you!

 

I don't mind busting up some ash, it splits well. The main reason I burned a LOT of it when we first put in the stove.

Had lots of tops available, and the ash split easier than the maple.

Then my buddy brought over his FIL's splitter. In a couple of hours, we did as much as I had gotten done all that spring/summer. Then asked if we wanted to go halves on a splitter.

SOLD!!


That's why we co-own a splitter.

 

I don’t mind swinging the Fiskers once in a while but it sure is nice knowing I don’t have to. The splitter was worth every penny.

I'm a convert and oh so happy to half the time of splitting. My shoulders are happier too.

 

I guess maybe my wife might be on to me when she said I am stubborn. Thought about noodling the cord of spruce I had sitting in front of me. I'm a hand splitter and said to myself you aren't going to wimp out because of some spruce. After this weekend I'm a sore hand splitter, that is starting to think maybe I am not as young as I once was. I hope the cord of elm I just put on the ground Sunday afternoon splits easier!

I have a nice hydraulic splitter, but..... ladies in the house were extra angry so I took the dogs out and made a chore of it! Got out my frustrations with done productivity

 

Yep I have a good hydraulic splitter but will go out once in awhile and do some hand splitting just for the exercise. I try not to over do it so my joints stay ok.

normally the log bustin' is frustration release, but yesterday had a boatload of elm to split.... I was in a worse mood when I was finally done.

 

Elm is best done with a splitter or some noodling. I whacked apart ash, the lower section without limbs to avoid your frustrations. When I was young we split tons of elm with a sledge and wedges and nails and saws. Never again!

 

Beautiful woods, beautiful XUV, beautiful clean splits and great photo! That picture looks like a fall season advertisement for the outdoorsman ... if there is such a thing.

I have a friend using my gas splitter and wouldn't you know a big limb fell on my house. I used the Fiskars but man am I hurting.

 

I am done, and very sore. Started my weekend warrior splitting marathon of knotted pine and stringy elm 3 weekends ago. Between the two should be around 2 1/2 cord, all hand split. The bigger elm was done last and it was interesting watching the development of frost pop. This last week it was dark by the time I would get home, but would wack one round to see the progress. It took 4 days of below freezing all day but when it finally froze through the pop was obviously easier to split that elm!

 

I can swing my x27 for 3-4hrs before shutting it down. Best temps for doing that, is just about here!
