Some auger motors are noisy because they do not have enough grease in them for proper lubrication.
Here is an older auger motor making a clicky clacky noise caused by old slightly hardened grease that does not seem to be doing the proper gear lubrication!

The better red high temperature grease can be easily added either by just taking the gearbox apart and / or installing a zerk grease fitting. Has anyone tried this? How did it work out?
Removing much of the old grease is also recommended.
The benefit of the zerk grease fitting is that more grease can easily be added without taking apart the gearbox.
Below is the suggested steps I used to install a zerk grease fitting.
    1. Remove case and clean old grease out of case and gears
    2. Mark outside gear box with a center punch on the lower right side approx 3 millimeters up from the bottom.
    3. Drilled initial hole with 5/32" dirll bit
    4. Enlarged hole with 13/64" drill bit
    5. Tapp the hole with 1/4"x20 Tap and die set. The star head screws were replaced with phillip head 8-32x3/4" long machine head bolts for easier maintenance.
    6. Clean out any metal in the gearbox from the drilling and tapping.
    7. Using 5/16 Deep socket and socket wrench screwed copper zerk fitting into gear box motor
    8. Re-install gears and bold case back together.
Here is how the same motor sounds after removing most of the old grease and adding the new red high temperature grease

Auger motors that do not have rubber seals between the two gearbox half’s can easily leak grease.
The best auger motors have a black rubber seal.

Pic 1 - shows red grease leaking from lower left side
Pic 2 - shows better gearbox auger motor with black rubber seal. :)

    Hello
After wiping off the grease and running it a while on the bench more grease leaked out.
Therefore I would also recommend to seal this joint with high temp silicone RTV or maybe cut your own silicone gasket to keep the grease in on auger motors with no type of seal. :)

    Hello
After sealing the seam with clear High Temp Silicone RTV the motor was run on the test bench continuously for 25 min and no leaks
In summary, the motor is running better And a little quieter with more grease and may add some life. However, there is still some noise and the Motor winding is old and the output shaft bushing, motor shaft bushing, gears and other parts are still old. A new higher quality ball bearing auger motor is still recommended here for more quiet operation and longer life.
