Our 4 yr old grandson has been asking me to take him to the beach. About a week ago, I finally had the whole weekend off, so we took his family to Savannah, Tybee Island GA and Hilton Head Island, SC. Spent 1 night, they did really well on this trip. His little brother is 16 months old. We made it out to the beach about 10:00AM Sat. Riley is already looking for toys RJ is being Mr Cool Savannah is one of the busiest ports on the East Coast, we saw at least 5 big container ships coming in or leaving just on Saturday... The old folks that tagged along. That's the Tybee Lighthouse in the background. Our daughter and her family After we left the Tybee Island beach, we went to Skidaway Island, University of GA has a Marine Science Center and aquarium there. Very neat place. Can you find the flounder? A skate was in the tank too. A diamond back terrapin Atlantic Moonfish and Bumper fish Another fish tank This tank had a nice gag grouper and snook in it Puffer fish family Young Atlantic spade fish And the Lion fish The center also has a long nature trail. Tyler, RJ and I walked it. 1 of the big live oaks there Several signs explaining the ecosystems around the coast. One of the many squareback crabs we saw scurrying around. The biggest tree we saw, it had rods/cables holding it up Another info post on the tidal river systems and the Skidaway River We got to our hotel room, on the 5th floor. We saw 2 ships leave while we were in the room resting... And then another came by our restaurant on River St that night
On Sunday, our daughter had booked a dolphin tour on Hilton Head Island, it's only about 30 or so miles from Savannah by land. You can see it across the sound from Tybee Island. We really liked our captain, he let RJ help him with the boat. He had a blast We did see 2 dolphins I had a great time too. Mr Riley wasn't too fond of the life jacket... RJ earned himself an ice cream when we got back to land...
I usually find flounder on a plate, between fries and tarter sauce. Looks like it was a great time. Keep sunscreen on them young'uns. I made it to Savanah once, close to 30yrs ago. Corporate outing at a Marriott property. Loved watching the shrimp boats sail past, while consuming adult beverages.
