    The bi-centennial -1976 is the GrandPa stove, specs are;

    Requires 6 bricks across back, 4 sides
    Flue size 8 inch top or rear

    The Grandpa Bear was the largest at the time, only one other Fisher model, the XL was ever made larger. Grandpa measures 29 1/2 inches across the top plate, with the box measuring 28" wide X 23" deep. Comfortable heating 2000 s.f. as suggested in Fisher literature, the stove is capable of even more.
    The first stoves had stars on the doors, and a 76 in the largest star on the right door. Like all other Fisher Stoves with solid cast iron doors, they do not use gasket material for a door seal.

    GrandMa specs;

    Grandma UL Unlisted pre 1980 with 2 square doors;

    Width ; 25 1/2" across top plate.
    Depth ; 28 1/4" overall with ash fender (shelf)
    Height ; 30 1/2" rear, 24 1/2" front
    Approx. weight 406 pounds
    Logs to 20" across stove
    Heats approx. 1500 s.f.
    Requires 5 bricks across back, 4 sides
    Flue size 8 inch top or rear
    Door opening ; 17" wide X 10 1/2" high

    Welcome aboard PA Mountain Man . I've Made baffles for 4 of my stoves and have some pics in this forum somewhere. Coaly is in the NEPA Vally and has had Fishers for 50 years. I currently have 3 but restored and had 12 at one time. New Spring handles are available and throw out the firebrick and replace with new. As long as there are no cracks anywhere, they'll be fine. Just take your time and work on them. I refurbished my Grandma I'm burning now about 5 years ago and it's been in this house since about 1980's :yes: Keep us posted, I would like to see the progress.

    Thanks WeldrDave. I've read the posts from you and coaly which is what inspired me to jump on the Fisher stove train.
    Neither stove has visible cracks, and when I do the walnut blasting I will be able to do a better inspection.
    I will post pictures as I make progress.
    But its good weather today for skidding ash out of the ravine.

    The EAB killed off a bunch of large ash beside our powerline and fortunately the power comany sent in a crew fromWV to cut em down.
    This guy showed himself during the rut and my wife shot him from the barn with her Iphone.

    I did not blast this stove, I only had a couple big "wire cups" that fit on a grinder. I did acid bath it after, (not seen) and painted. I also "pre-burned" it outside slow to cure paint and not smell up house! :eek: I have several more stoves and pics. This was the last one and I knew what card they were on. :whistle::rofl: :lol:

    When I spoke of cracks, here's a Mama bear with a crack at the weld seam I had to fix. It was poorly welded originally and the plate warped, I finally got it straight, (not perfect). Also, there's a pic of my Bicentennial Grandma. $300.00 and a 2hour drive. DSCN2774.JPG DSCN2791.JPG DSCN2795.JPG DSCN2801.JPG DSCN2803.JPG
