So I guess we are going gold hunting July 2015. Everything seems to be in place. It should be a fun time, but I am sooooooo tired of that show Who else gold pans?
We had a friend that went to AZ in the winter and dry panned. I know he moved tons of dirt for what he found. Gary
99 would like to go for gold and also opals. But she hates the long drive....so.... I hate flying and the cost is prohibitive in my opinion anyway. We might be in Co this early summer; you never know, right? Oh yeah, she hates cold water also! Hope you do well and also post the pics!
I wish there was a place here in central PA that I could pan but I'm pretty sure there ain't any hot beds here. I have found quartz in small quantities when we were younger but never any gold....lol If there was a place I'd be doing it for fun, if nothing else.....
It will be in central WY, and my offer to "hook" you up with a great fisherman still stands fishing hook pun absolutely intended!
I can't get into the cold water, but I am a great camp holder downer. Oh, and I will drive the truck with the atv lol And (shhh, he is getting a sluice box from Santa!)
I've done a bit of sluicing just off the edge of my property. It's a fun time. There's the Alabama Gold Camp about 20miles from me - I think Gold Fever did a show there. I don't get the outdoor channel anymore, it was a good rainy Saturday morning diversion
Late last fall I was wade fishing a stream with a buddy, and we noticed that the waters suddenly got really murky and muddy and the we stopped catching fish. After dealing with this for about 3/4 mile we finally got back to where we parked, and found a family with a huge raft they had drug down into the water running a large gas powered pump that they were using to "pan" for gold (I guess it was a sluice box they were using?). Everyone was dressed in wet suits and their van and trailer was from West Virginia. I tried talking to them but they weren't friendly in the least, which just irritated me more that they had ruined my day of fishing. I can't imagine traveling to South Western Ohio for gold would be worth the trip, but to each his own. I remember running into several guys panning the traditional way when I took a fishing trip to Colorado. It was cool talking to them, for them it was a fun hobby to give them an excuse to camp for a few days and get away from it all.
Hope you have fun. I have never done it myself, but would love to give it a try. Not to change the subject(kind of) gold and silver has been down again the last couple of day's. Keep your eye's open, may be good time to buy.
No gold here except for in the Bullion stores. Would love to try panning for it, though. I would see investing in it merely as an insurance against financial turmoil, but if things go bad I would be in trouble anyway.
Bass-I don't think that something like that would be allowed around here in the trout streams....I think you also have to have a permit for doing that in Michigan. WW-Please remember us when you make it big!!
I have never tried that. Sounds fun, especially the getting out in the woods camping. If you turn the TV on there seems to always be a lot of "gold digging" going on wherever there is money prevalent.
I got curious and looked it up, you have to have a permit in Ohio also to use a mechanical pump, as well as the landowners' permission.
The only gold we have in ND is hillbilly black gold that requires a rig and fracking. Question to those who know...could you save a lot of time and fill a bucket with dirt then hit it with a metal detector no detect dump n get another bucket?
