Logs delivered this evening! Had to try out the new splitter. Works great!
I'll try it horizontally tomorrow since the logs aren't big around.

I asked him how much the logs alone weighed and he figured about 18 tonnes. No wonder my back gets sore sometimes.

Nice size wood to cut, I only get huge monster logs. Everything to about 18-20" gets chipped up around here.

Love the seat cushion on the bucket. Not quite a milk crate, but it looks like it will do.

NOOooo, say it ain't so.:hair: The stuff that is 12" to 18" is the easiest to handle for wood yielded. I don't have a tractor to move the big heavy stuff.

Nice load of logs and no brush to contend with either. As for the splitting, for sure I'd leave it vertically. So much less energy used.

That's a nice load of poles. I usually get a load every spring. Around here they run $650-$750, depending on who you get it from. Mostly beech ( which is my favorite) with some oak and birch in it. Sometimes a little red or silver maple is thrown in there as well. Usually a load will yield between 7-8 cord for me.

$950 CDN, all or mostly red oak.

I tried it horizontally this evening on the few logs I bucked up and that worked fine too. The bigger ones will be done vertically though. I'll alternate throughout the whole load and decide which one works best for me. One thing I noticed is there's a lot of rattling coming from the beam when it's laying down. The main hinge pin has some slack of course so you can move it up and down but that noise is annoying. I lifted the one end up a bit and put a board underneath that end of the beam to take up the slack and that helped quite a bit.

Haven't done a load of logs since shortly after I started burning wood, last one was probably 83 or 84. Looks like some fun but I would miss the trip to the woods......go way to get r done though.
