I think I found a guy who knows what he's doing. I've talked to 4 different guys this morning and this guy knew what a cord was, what seasoned actually means (not split last month!), uses a moisture meter! and doesnt mix poplar in with his hardwoods. So I scheduled a delivery for tomorrow. Hopefully I'm not disappointed but im optimistic.

Got a text a few mins ago asking if I would mind if he delivered this afternoon instead of tomorrow morning. So he'll be here in about 30 mins.

Its ready to burn....split a few pieces and its avg 15%. the oak was slightly higher while the other types were slightly lower. I think im going to wrap this cord up in greenhouse plastic and try the kiln dry experiment I've seen others do on here to see if I can get the oak under 15%. I wasn't planning on burning this until Jan-Feb. so I'd be interested to see what a few months of full sun, black top and greenhouse plastic can do.

Wow. That is nice dry stuff. Glad for ya BCB! Now you know a guy you can rely on. And could even call him in the spring and pre-order early for next season if you wanted.

Tree guys shouldn't have a hard time seasoning wood to sell. They have a huge inflow of wood, and can pay someone very little to split all day. After they've hoarded enough, they have the dry inventory that some people know to ask for.

Usually, the fact that the flow of wood is so large means split wood needs to be moved as quickly as possible. Unless you have a huge piece of property

Where do they put all that wood to season? I should do about 500 cords this season to give an idea. Log, processor, truck, delivered. Can't get it out fast enough, about 100 back logged . The other processor on the lot about the same, maybe more.

No one here works for "very little" unless its family or they don't know better! Not to mention most $10/hr hires are not trustworthy around easily stolen stuff or running several. 100,000s worth of equipment.

That wood looks pretty decent.. If the price is right and you have the room plus the money you might want to get what you can and get ahead..

Diaper duty all weekend. It's gotta wait till sometime this week. I'll throw a pic up when its stacked though. I threw 2 big splits in this afternoon and they lit right up and are putting out some nice secondaries.

I'm probably going to buy one more cord from him in the near future. Gotta see how the farm sales do at the markets this week and how much extra cash I'll have available.
