I hauled my new to me quad over to my land and put it to use. Got a load of shagbark, beech, and a little sugar maple. I used the quad to search for morels. That was successful. I'll post more pics later, but here is my haul of shrooms. (Edit, pics are not attaching at all) The big ones are huge, about the size of a 20 oz soda bottle. The quad did well, we hauled a load of box elder and red pine for shoulder wood.
I'll try and attach pics after I mow the lawn. I never have issues not being able to send pictures. The farmer planted something, probably corn, so I got the quad at the perfect time. I won't be able to drive my Audi up to the edge of my land through the farm field now. I do need to make the path a bit wider and clear a few saplings near the top of the land as the trailer will not fit through a few places now.
Oh yeah. It was hot today at the wood lot, and at my friends house. It was 77 and humid. I got home and due to the lake effect wind, it was 62. I don't know why, but the picture of my morel catch isn't uploading. All the rest of the pics were taken with my phone as well as the morel pic. The last trailer pic has a little ash on back as well, since it needed to get from my front head to the stacks. I'll stack it tomorrow.
Nice work buddy-I didnt get to cut today, after beech and red oak in the morning...did get the splitter to the shop though-they have never dealt with that issue before, and they sell alot...oh well, its under warranty-post pics of your haul today when you can.
Let's try a screenshot. All blonds and they kept getting bigger, until the last one which was the Grey. We got another 12 from my buddy's land, all greys and much much smaller. My haul from my land filled the pillow case we used to hold them in, and his similar number was only a little bit, like the size of the grey I have here. Seriously, these big blonds are huge. My buddy has been collecting morels for years, and he's only seen one as big as these. Eric VW , get a load of these.
Technically I didn't cut anything, just split rounds, and gathered lengths of shoulder season wood. White I split, my buddy took his 460 out and he bucked the pine and box elder up for the next time I come out to split. Maybe next weekend.
You'll have tons & tons of wood in soon, & you are having a lot of fun doing it Add in a mess of morels like that, fried in butter
Nice haul Horkn! Great lookin Morels, man! Be nice if I was able to get on some this year, but I think the spot I have been to over the past 8-10 years has been ravaged... Has steadily produced less and less 'til nothing this year... Seems like the Bayou did ya proud today, bud- that's a Kawi for ya!
Nice work with the quad - looks great! I miss hunting morels in Indiana - they are real good! Cheers!
You don't have morels in New England? I never looked for shrooms of any kind when I lived in Maine. Heck, I never looked for shrooms until this year. I feel bad that these in this patch were growing under my nose practically since 1982.
No - they are here, but no where near the abundance I would see in Indiana and after some time looking, I gave up - just too hard to find them where I am - although I'm sure a few folks know the honey holes! Cheers!
Well around here, the buckthorn is making woods work much more difficult. There's really no buckthorn at my land, but its all over at my buddy's land only a mile away.
Yeah, my right arm looks like I had to take a cat to the veterinarian. Short sleeve weather at work today. I showed off my morel pic and all my coworkers thought it was worth it.
