The next stand to the west of the black locust I've been cutting is a large stand of mostly ash, with some norway maple and black birch near the road. Lots of dead elm too.

There's probably 10-15 small diameter windfall ash, most of them hung up and hopefully pretty dry. I'd like to send a lot of this over to my BIL. He needs stuff to burn this year, and he needs to break in that new sawbuck I made for him. :D

I stumbled on this - apparently someone's abandoned cutting site. Couple trailer loads of ash already cut up on the ground, plus another whole tree. IMG_1836.JPG IMG_1837.JPG IMG_1838.JPG IMG_1839.JPG IMG_1831.JPG IMG_1830.JPG

Some dead elm right here as well; one right across the trail.

Did I mention I don't go back to work until *next* Monday? :dex::D

I found this too - some (mostly) standing dead mystery wood. Triple trunk, about 14" apiece, all broken off. Did I *finally* find some oak?

    IMG_1826.JPG IMG_1827.JPG

Couple of dead black locust nearby as well:

I think this stuff is all coming home with me... It needs time to season, after all... :D

Did I mention I don't go back to work until *next* Monday? :dex::saw::tree::axe::D

+1 on that, couldn't tell you what kind but looks like oak. IIRC, doesn't black locust have higher BTUs than most oaks?

Yeah I think most charts have it higher than red but lower than white. I think this is either White or English, which are both considered white. I only have a handful of those but that's the closest thing I can match it up to I think. I'll get a look at some splits tomorrow.. :axe::D

It's family land. :D My great-grandparents had a 77 acre orchard; I own 14 at the end of it, but I'm managing all of it right now. This pile was from my BIL - he lost it.. :picard:
