Hello all, well it's been a while since last posted here, just got blasted with over 2 feet
of the white stuff:bug:. Dealer where I have been getting my LaQretes from gave me
two 20lbs bags of Force pellets. Hmmmm, I have been happy with the softwoods.
Anyone in NewEngland try these?, Going to try them after the hopper gets low.
But in the meantime please chime in. Remember to keep your stick on the ice.

One of the local stores here is giving away free sample bags of these too. I picked up a bag but have not burned it yet. Under the impression these are the same product as cubex/comfort/northern. Stay warm.

Yep, in a smaller manageable bag (22lbs).

It was pricey at the regular price of 3.99 when I first noticed them. Then it went down to 2.99. I wonder how many they sold at the higher price. You get 44lbs for 5.98 which is more reasonable but not a steal.

1/2 weight bags won't be 1/2 the price because they have doubled their packaging costs.

    Real question here

What is the cost to produce a bag?

If you buy the film for the bags by the full truckload, you can get it for about $0.20 per bag. Which is $10/ton when the ton has 50 bags. The total packaging materials cost is about $20/ton. That is materials only. The labor and equipment costs are a much bigger factor.
The 25lb bags we make are $0.28 each because we don't buy as many.
The largest added cost for us when bagging the 25lb bags is the labor. It takes 80 of them for a ton and they are filled, stacked, and wrapped all by hand.

    Thanks Scott !

Are the 40lb bags done this way, by hand? I can see the labor costs going way up if 40lb are done by machine and 25lb done by hand.

40lb bags are filled and bagged by machines but still require a 24 hour crew of 3 people to keep everything moving. They have to feed in pallets, liners, bag film, and hood film. They also have to monitor packaging quality and clear the jams and take away and stack up the finished tons.

This is the bagging process before the hooder was installed:

    This is the hooder:
