First, welcome aboard Murphy boys ! Nice to have you here. :handshake: Before you/we go any futher, are you looking to sell the XL, if you are I will move this thread into the classified. If you want info for purchase then we can help! This thread is in the modern EPA stove section and I need to put it over to Non-EPA stoves.

    Welcome aboard Murphy boys :handshake:

How much did you get for it and is the firebox in as good condition as the outside? (If you don't mind answering)

Where are you from/located? Can you narrow it down to a portion of a state at least?

One of the rarest of all Fishers made. Also the largest, called the "Restaurant Model".
$679 regular price in 1979 with $611 sale price. They were all made in Utah. Shipping can drive it up to other locations.
The Deseret News is the place to find them advertised; The Deseret News - Google News Archive Search

I would need the year of manufacture for an exact price list price. There should be a stainless tag under the left rear leg starting with UT- .
For a current value, many more pictures are needed. Does it have a baffle plate or angle iron supports for a baffle to set on, and do you have the screen that came with it? Is the ash fender (shelf) removable?
If the door is latched, the right handle needs adjustment.

There is no baffle. One should be added. The later factory baffle was made for the 10 inch outlet with 10 inch flue. A custom baffle is designed for the chimney flue square inch area in use. In this case, reduced to 8, a minimum smoke space above baffle (the area the exhaust passes over) must be 50.24 square inches minimum.
This is called a "Smoke Shelf Baffle" which rolls smoke down into flames for more complete combustion. It was designed to reduce smoke. It adds resistance within the firebox, prevents excessive heat loss up chimney and makes the stove much more controllable. The cook / simmer top also changes from front to rear instead of being hotter on the upper top.

Anything in the flue or connector pipe would be a damper which controls exhaust velocity. That would be a variable resistance which decreases draft when draft is too strong. It is a chimney control which affects the stove. A smoke shelf baffle was used in open fireplaces which must be lined from appliance to chimney top when using an existing fireplace flue.

Current codes (ICC) technically no longer allow any reduction in flue size. A 1 inch reduction is allowed in NFPA 211. They physically work fine with more reduction, depending on chimney draft. The oversize outlet is for open door burning with screen in place.

Remove the fireplace grate. They are not used in controlled combustion stoves. Always burn on a minimum 1 inch of ash on the firebrick bottom. Raising the wood allows far too much air to mix with the fuel and does not allow charcoal and coals to form extending burn time. They are for an open burning fireplace where you need the fire to burn fast and clean to heat the much larger chimney flue used for a fireplace.
This stove is not considered a radiant heater during open door burning in "Fireplace Mode".

Rear vent models are deeper front to back with the added exhaust vent, so the removable ash fender allows movement through doorways. Not all top vent models had it, (an easy way to date it) your first pic looked like a top vent.
