Hello, I am new to this site and did a looking searching and figured I could reach bout for a little help.
I am looking for guidence on what chainsaw to buy.
I am taking down trees about two days a week. Basically getting fire wood for myself and a friend. What size should I lean towards? And I've always heard stihl is the way to go so I would like to go that way unless otherwise.
    Thank you in advance
    Kevin

Help us out here, how big are these trees normally? How much wood are you cutting per year? Your budget will come into play as well as I assume you are looking for a new saw.

I've seen the saws Kmart carries, we are going to avoid those :) I highly recommend your local Stihl dealer, but like MM said we need more info. Welcome to FHC.

Give some thought to whether you see yourself cutting well into the future as well - this will help determine whether it's worth spending the extra money (assuming your budget allows it) on a pro-level saw. MM's questions will obviously help greatly too. Cheers!

There s a lot of good chainsaws out there but most likely the recommendations you will get here will be to go buy a stihl

Sorry for the lack of info. I just felt like I was starting to ramble.
This is something a friend and I are starting to get into. His cousin has land that we can take trees out of. So the size varries. Right now I am using a husqvarna with a 16" bar. I am unsure of the model. It's worn pretty good.
I am looking for a saw of my own. I like the size of it.
    I'd like something around $3-4

I am new to felling trees but I am quite handy. I've landscaped for several years and a fire fighter so I have a good grasp of safety and tools.
I've used/use chain saws but never for as long as I am going to at one time.
We started two weeks ago and it's something I could get into.

Actually, for a lot of folks it's real hard to ignore the Husqvarna 545 and 555. Pro-quality and features with a mid-range price tag. That said, I did get some trigger time with a Stihl MS391 this weekend and it was a real nice saw with a lot of capability for the price tag.

 :rofl: :rofl:  See what I just wrote? You sound like an excellent candidate for the Husqvarna 545. Provided your trees don't get much over 20".

If I had to have just one saw, I would buy a used 60-70cc saw. I've got $400 in this one here... image.jpg image.jpg

Also, I've been looking on Craigslist. Is there a way to understand the model numbers? I've seen a bunch and when I try to google it I get more confused on them.

MM is the expert, but I would look the models up and find out how many CC each saw is-- bigger the better.

Used chain saw in excellent running conditions. Stihl Model 026 with 16 inch Rollomatic bar and chain. Spare pre-sharpened chain included. Chain sharpening and routine maintenance tools included. Carburetor rebuilt and fuel lines, fuel filter and spark plug replaced. Runs great. Also includes original owner's manual and chain guard (scabbard). Used infrequently for residential use only. Minor scratches from normal use.
