The better half has been asking for a greenhouse for a few years. I built a 10x14 pvc hoop house and covered with 6mil greenhouse plastic. All that is left now is to install the window in the back and trim the excess plastic. Attached are a few pics.
Nice work! We have been watch the "Simple living Alaska" channel on Youtube. They built one and have a few episodes on theirs. They have a good number of videos to watch on homesteading, gardening, chickens, etc.
Let’s see the questions are piling up... - Venting: I do plan on adding a screened window on the back end wall and was planning on a screen for the door - well have to see how it goes. I will say - it’s mighty hot in there this time of year. - Plastic attachment: Three pieces of plastic - the end walls and then the main cover. Plastic is pulled tight and pinched between the wood frame and 1x2’s. Important - the plastic can not sit directly on the pvc as it will degrade the plastic quickly. Wherever the plastic would come in contact with the pvc, the pipe was covered with white Gorilla tape - I used three big rolls of that stuff. The plastic is 6mil greenhouse plastic - guaranteed for 4 years. I bought a 25x40 foot roll for $105 and have about 10x25 left. - Tools: Carpenter square, hammer, crescent wrench, cordless cutoff saw and drill. My workbench was the F150 tailgate. - Cost: Somewhere in the neighborhood of $700. - Design and building: Principals closely followed a few YouTube videos by OYR frugal and sustainable organic gardening. Search on this phrase and you’ll find them: “How I built our DIY Hoop House (greenhouse)”. Due to my windy location and snow load needs I used more wood in the framing and three more hoops. I do plan to prop up the roof on the inside for the snow season. It’s amazing how adding the plastic stiffened the whole structure up.
Check out "Red Poppy Ranch" too on the tube. More homesteading and great work ethic. Sorry for the hijack Gpsfool.
