Alright folks, whether you're a fan of the BTU 10, the SEC (South East Combustibles) or the ACC (Axe Chopped Cordwords), here is your chance to cast your vote in the FHC Top 25 Poll before Match Madness gets under way! PM me your votes (no more than 25!) in no particular order and the 25 wood species receiving the most votes will then be ranked this Monday. Please be sure to not vote for broad species like "Oak" or "Maple," we are looking for species like "Pin Oak," "Sugar Maple," and "Silver Maple." With that, begin sending me your votes and you can use this thread to brag up your favourites!
Down in my part of the county 90% of the hardwoods are some type of oak. The area is mainly pineywoods with hardwoods scattered here and there. So having said that my choices by defalt would be: Native Pecan Pig Pecan Hickory Red Oak Pin Oak Water Oak Holly Oak White Oak The very best firewood I have ran across which is native to the area but is rarely cut for wood is the Live Oak. I had to remove one from a fence roll a while back and it was the best of the best for BTU....one hot fire.
If that is your ballot, please send it to me in a private message (via your inbox) so I can set it aside with the others for tallying up.
Oak Hard Maple Ash Soft Maple Box Elder These are the only wood species I've burned in my stove in 3 years so far. Box elder being the most I've burned via cordage. They all have their place though.
I have also burnt some dimensional lumber scraps, and about 6 pallets or so. Next year I have some mulberry, cherry and some birch coming due.
