Well, I guess everyone has "that guy" in their neighborhood. My neighbor a few houses down decided to cut a tree down fairly close to the power lines, didn't go well. Knocked out power for more than 4 hours today! I have no idea how the tree fell in that direction, he had the tree tied off to a dump truck pulling in the complete opposite direction. It's hard to see but if you look closely you'll see the tree laying on the wires.
One thing I've become much better about as I've aged a little is knowing when I'm over my skis. Paid to have one dropped a few months ago but was just too close to the house and power lines for me. That guy is the reason I parted with a few bucks.
I just read about a tree trimmer south of me that fell about 60 feet and did not live. Don't know the specifics but feel for his family.
I don't know unless he cut his rope accidentally or the crotches he was tied off in. Don't want to play armchair bud nipper.
I don't know who he worked for but I know the bud nippers we use are pretty good. I feel bad during storm situations we get the glory but those guys work there buts off too.
I had one go completely the wrong way Thursday. Should've tied it off, but was just me in the woods . Just made me have to skid the logs a bit farther. "Risk assessment" is a good thing My mistake, no one impacted, very low risk His mistake, he made the local news , very high risk .
