I figure about a third of the tops, branches, larger rounds from that Mulberry dropped in backyard 2+ weeks ago is split/stacked now.Including all but 5-6 pieces DSC02874.JPG DSC02876.JPG of that medium sized American Elm nearby that was brought down at same time. With the exception of a couple (so far) stubborn pieces that Elm split easier than any I've dealt with in probably 20 years.Very straight grain, not the normal interlocked/spiral pain in the azz stuff....

A few more pieces need bucked to length, split, stacked. Then the biggest/best Mulberry rounds that remain (16" to around 22") will be eventually roughed out into slabs/blocks for woodturning/other craft projects. All the scrap/slabs from those will go in the stack also of course.

Might sell a few on Craigslist, decent ones I've gotten $10-25 each depending on their size in past couple years or so.

Still haven't decided how/when to bring down that huge tall stump. But it seems to be stable for the time being, much better that 90% of the weight is off it now.Hopefully in no more than a year I'll have it reduced to final height of 5 or 6 feet.

I've since moved that trash can full of kindling to the left of the large rear stack, will make it easier to continue topping off the smaller one in front. DSC02877.JPG DSC02878.JPG DSC02879.JPG

20 pound vintage Stanley, probably 60-70 yrs old at least.Another Ebay find a few years back, found a very large New Old Stock hickory handle for it soon afterwards since it didn't have one..The sledge eye is so big the end of the 36" handle fits perfectly.

I'm not a big guy & not getting any younger either. This beast you really don't have to swing it,just lift it & drop a few times on what you want to bash into submission & that's pretty much the end of things...
