I’m surprised that I seem to see daylight throughout the dovetail joint between the two halves of the clamp. Does this gap close by tightening down hard on the clamp screws? Currently pretty snug finger tight. Simmons scope and rings, .22 Mag going on an old beater barn rifle (Ultra-Hi Products Model 2200). Having issues with the site uploading my pic.
Looks like an 11 or 12 mm rail (using the kids ruler). Read that some rings can mount on both a 3/8 and 11mm. Considering fabricating a ‘L’ shaped shim to put in there.
Try to snug up the bigger screw. It looks bigger at least. If it's a tiny screw, they don't hold much before going south.
Looks like the gap on the top is built in. There is a guide pin. What I thought was a screw head is actually a nut. I’ll try a little more tightness and see what happens. The shop sent my wife home with some other rings that clamp on fine but are 30mm.
Kinda like you get what you pay for? Mostly concerned about durability. I’ll see if I can shim it. Someone lost the front sight years ago, so anything will be an improvement!
Silly question.. But.. Does the mismatch still exist if the top section is rotated 180° ? Edit.. N'mind, looks like your referring to the rail clamp. That looks like it might not be seated fully on the rail. But the gaps on the ring still seem off. $.02
Not sure what to make of the rail clamp. The rifle.. it doesn't look like a Picatinny rail.. are the rings designed for picatinny? Your dovetail looks very shallow comparatively speaking.
It doesnt seem like a good deal to have that gap. I suppose it wont be affected much, recoil wise, with a .22 mag....
Nope, still offset. Do you think this will affect the “big game performance “ advertised for this scope? (Mounts came in the scope box)
Precious little information on the rings in the Simmons documentation. It is a Japanese rifle. I don’t remember where Dad bought it.
Odds are that the rifle is definitely not equipped with picatinny style rail, and most scope mounts these days are designed for those style of rail. Could explain why there's so much gap, not only near the tightening nut, but at the dovetail itself. Might still work fine for you though.
Those machined rimfire dovetails are typically not as deep as a pic rail and are not designed to be. You do need to be sure that you have a good grip on the rail with the ring.
