Been splitting off and on since March. Wood split this year 92 feet long, averages 5 feet tall, average 30 inches wide at least. Just shy of 9 cords. 3 cords of each: white oak, hickory, and elm mixed with some cherry. Been a good wood year.

Total pile length including wood from prior years is 132 feet long, averages 5 feet tall, 30 inches, over 12 cords. Plus 4 cords at the house for burning his winter.

Guess it's time to start cutting again. The saws have been sitting too long!

Wow looks like from sun up to sun down you have no shade on your stack. Lots of open land for wind to pull out the moisture. I'm quite jealous.

I am fortunate to live in a hill with a lot of "common area" behind my home...some scrap land that a few of us homeowners get to use, courtesy of the developer who built the subdivision. It is part quarry and part scrub woods...most good wood was logged off long ago. I stack my wood on rocky, sandy soil in full sun. Have room for whatever I can cut. I am glad I have a place that supports my hobby well. I do rut up my yard a little now and then driving back there. I was blessed in the last couple of years with some good scores. Last year a retiree decided to take down a massive oak next to his home, just a few houses away. I saved him money by cutting and hauling off the wood after an arborist dropped the tree in chunks. Tree was well over 150 years old. Then a farmer in my church had a massive shagbark hickory die on some property he was selling and asked me if I wanted it. Six cords between those two trees. The same farmer has some big dead ash trees in his cow pasture; that is my next job. Can't wait to start.

    Brett,
sounds like your pipeline for nice hardwood is moving along nicely. its great when cutting wood for someone helps both of you.
