My son has a 45G barrel stove that sits long-ways with a welded stand, a ~8"x12" dampered steel door, and a ~5" hole at the top-back for exhaust. He would like to have a door with a window to replace the existing steel door. I suggested that he fab up one with 1"angle iron with the glass held in with clips, and to use tempered glass. Is this doable? Safe? I can post pics tommorow.
Yeah, pricey...what I bought this last time was 1.75" x 2" and was $4. I bought a piece a couple years back that was 4" x 6" (ish) and 20-some $...must run about $1/sq, inch I'd guess...
I don't recall where I saw it...but I once saw a thread on one of these forums where a guy made his own stove and incorporated a square "glass" baking dish in the door as his window...it actually looked pretty good! He said it was something he had laying around...I'm guessing he "found" it "laying" in the kitchen cabinets and his wife is pulling her hair out looking for her favorite baking dish!
