Opening day here Friday. Supposed to be mid 80's through the weekend so I doubt I'll go until next week. We hit the local archery range and got some last minute tuning and practice done over the weekend.
Hope you have a great season lukem. Our fall bow opened on Sept 12th. I've only been out a couple times (in the stand while I type this). Only seen a yearling and a Y buck so far. Lot's of does and a really big 8 on camera I'd like to cross paths with. It's earn a buck (have to shoot a doe first) in the zone I'm in until fri then it's buck or doe. We've got some nice cool weather for the next week so hoping that gets them moving more during daylight. The acorn crop is crazy this year too so patterning them is tough.
Wow Sept 12th, they must really want the deer worked on up there? Do yall have much of a gun season? Good luck this year lukem, Smokinpiney and everyone else.
Got my set up in the woods. Made a blind out of junk logs. The deer were around and had no idea I was there Saturday morning. Sat out 3 times, I have passed on everything so far. I have a creep feeder with corn. And the pond is just below, making this a well traveled area.
Yea our deer population is pretty high here. In some zones it used to be unlimited does but they recently changed that to 9 does. That is per season though so i can technically shoot 27 does between fall bow, permit bow and winter bow.
Ours opens tomorrow (archery).... Unfortunately even though I have been practicing much I have had many setbacks: Broken bow (30 years old) Switched to my father's old one. Get it sighted in an tube some arrows... Needed to buy new -sighting in again.... Working well for awhile but my release breaks and the D-loop frays: new D-loop and release.... sighting in again Arrow rest moves... adjusting and still sighting in. I will not have the time to be properly sighted in before tomorrow, let alone checking broadhead tuning or shooting the 3d range... Maybe Saturday will allow me to complete?
Got set up on a small pasture last night and stuck a nice doe for the freezer. 15 yard chip shot. Double lung through and through. Blood trail looked like a crime scene and she still managed to run 75 yards. I heard her crash so I knew she didn't make it far.
Unfortunately, this dude didn't make it a couple more weeks to give us a chance. Found it dead in the driveway of a farm the fil rents when we moved some cow/calves over yesterday am. He was laying about 20 or so steps from the road. A main 7 with two kicker points on his right side base, both big enough to count (around here people go by an inch long or/and long enough to hang a ring on...), so he would get tagged as a 9 pt.
I put a doe in the freezer this AM. Made Hank Shaw's southern fried backstrap for dinner with home grown mashed potatoes.
On my walk today I watched a shooter buck beating the hell out of a tree. I was 50 yards away on blacktop. He finally winded me and ran into my woods. I would like to see him in my scope late November.
I'm off tomorrow through the 8th. Two of my biggest bucks have been taken on the same day on consecutive years....11/5
