    Pretty good...
    Chant du Départ: Remember...

"think I've mentioned this before, but the PACAF headquarters building on Hickam has machine gun bullet holes in the front staircase from a strafing Japanese fighter. Every year, the Japanese Consul visits the PACAF Commander and offers to repair them. The General politely declines saying they help us remember to be prepared."

My Father in law was in the Army at Schofeild Barracks when Pearl Harbor was bombed, he swore that after they broke open a armory and grabbed weapons they shot down a jap plane. Then after that he was in the Pacific theater for the rest of the war. He saw a lot of action, and hated McArthur and the red cross. He said Mcarthur was responsible for killing my Americans than the enemy. As for the red cross, the only time they came around, they charged the guys for coffee and a doughnut, that's what he told me. He was quite the guy, he lived to be 84 and was a real character. Out of respect for him i never really questioned him about what he went though, i had a pretty good idea, i was in viet nam in the mid 60's

My youngest son just turned 18 on Dec. 7th. He was taught from an early age the history of his B-day. I'm a history buff with all kind of books, been that way since I was a kid. We all must remember that so many gave so much, and still continue to, so that we sleep in peace at night in our homes. Thank You and God bless our troops and veterans, past, present, and future.

Lets not forget the reason why they gave so much, that which we seem so willing to give up.

"He who gives up freedom for security gets neither" Ben Franklin, I believe.

"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
Good quote but the context of it was about raising taxes for defense. The rich Penn family didn't want their property taxed and just wanted to pay a one off lump sum to the governing assembly. Sounds familiar today even but I digress.
I think it's quite relevant today even out of the context of what the great Ben Franklin was saying.

A radio personality I listen to has a father who was aboard ship when it was attacked. The main radio guy asked if he had visited Pearl and he has not. I am thinking he needs to get to it. Why he wouldn’t visit the place his father was part of is beyond me.

Oyrprevious Coroner has a career Marine father who was a survivor. After his retirement, he ran the NCO club at Pearl for several years.
