Every now and then you see those CL ads that look to good to be true, or the others that just raise your eyebrows in disbelief. The ad for this saw has been running for about a month here, apparently no takers yet! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stihl Chainsaw - $700 Stihl MS 441 with 25" bar and sharp chain, used 5 times. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Used 5 times? I guess that's like "I used it the first time to take down/buck 6 huge trees at my friends. I used it the second time to buck up a semi load of logs. I used it the third time cutting all weekend at uncle Joe's, etc................................... "
It's dirty and the green paint is a mark against it, but it really doesn't look like it's in bad shape. I haven't really paid much attention to the 441 since it's a newer model than the saws that typically come across my radar. In that condition it's probably worth... what, maybe $400?
Probably depends on your area. I can walk in and buy new for $780. No way I'd pay what they're asking.
I've seen that one for a while as well... It's not even a new C model. Not to say a dealer still doesn't have a Non C-M on the shelf still. The paint.... How in the he!! does that happen!! What an idiot. He should have thought about that paint job before he thought about selling it..
I'm sure the green paint job would serve as a good way to deter theft. I'd prefer to keep my saws behind locked doors but I'm sure some end up in situations in which they can't trust those who they are working with. (sentence inadvertently ended with a preposition)..
It's funny, but I still can't see anything in that pic suggesting it's been used all that much. It's dirty, the paint is ugly and the price is silly, but it's not scratched up or visibly worn. I suspect it would clean up to look almost like new, albeit with unfortunate green accents.
I bet the green paint is how they identify their stuff. Maybe a lawn gate or tree service so that the owner knows what's his stuff at a glace. Kink of like the mechanics that spray parts of their tools florescent orange or whatever.
Doesn't look too bad to me either....just dirty. That paint, as others have said, is probably to mark the tool in case it was stolen and/or to prevent it from being stolen. I imagine you could get it off the recoil cover but not sure about the handle. Some of those newer paints bond pretty tightly to plastic. Still, its not a $700 saw.
No matter, it is still $700, there is no room to flip it so you would be stuck with the saw and a green saw at that. Can you spell Kawasaki?
Its just a shame...because when I use something "5" times..it still looks brand new . I have bought , fixed , sold many saws . Usually when the outside looks like crap...its an indication of little or no maintance done to it . There have been exceptions . But..........at least show some effort and clean it up with a rag and simple green/wd40...something !!! I always hate looking on Craigslist...and seeing a trend of.."lets spray it with a hose ..then take a pic...that will look cool !" But then they leave the hose on the ground in the picture view ! Ok..I vented a little..so what
Hey HD are you looking at my CL posts? Haha. I washed a set of rest and took a pic of im still wet. But at least I said I just washed them and they are not that shiny!
