Supposedly good for eating and sweet when green. Where the honey locust gets its name from. Will kill you if it's from black locust.

K, I think I've got a handle on this, please correct me if I'm wrong.

    No thorns= honey locust
    Thorns on trunk= honey locust
Thorns only on branches= black locust

Seeds approx pea sized= honey locust
    Tiny seeds= black locust

BL seeds are not tiny. Pods are 3-8" long on my BL. That bark is definitely not BL. BL thorns are like rose thorns with the wide base tapering to a point, kind of like shark teeth. Honey locust thorns are long and round, mostly in clusters, kind of like spikes. BL thorns suck, and I usually end up bleeding and in pain when I cut one up. I won't even touch honey locust with thorns anymore. We had to cut 6 down a few years ago at my friend's place. It ended up costing one atv tire, two tires on my truck, and my friend stepped on one that went thru his boot and landed him in the hospital and 6 weeks off work. HL thorns are evil.

How big would you say the seeds inside the pod are?
