The first year I burned, like most I way under estimated the amount of wood I would need, and if I recall I was using mostly 8-12mo seasoned red oak lol... Soo... Anyways I learned of the firewood bricks and ended up with a pallet of Ecco Blocks or Envi's, I forget which..

Anyways 2yrs ago, although with plenty of wood I decided to buy a pallet of bricks to keep in the garage as they are easier for the misses to load if by chance I am not here.

I went to the stove shop I bought our stove from as they used to stock both the envi's and ecco's...

They had these "new and great" Crown blocks in stock. So we bought a ton and brought them home and stored in the garage.

The very first pack I opened, the smell of super strong pine hit you in the face... Ok, no problem, pine burns. Well, the other thing I instantly noticed, the bricks are not all the same size, some are wider, taller and fatter... Not by much, but 1" or so either way... When unpackaging them, they crumble. Each pack has 2-3 cups of loose pine chips.

Most blocks I've burned in the past seem to be saw dust thats compressed, these are chips like plywood is, not fine dust. Its extremely messy, actually super duper messy... You could stack a cord of walnut on your hearth and have 1/4 of the mess these things make.

Each shrink wrap pack also has holes in it... Well, this means the chunks fall out all over the place when carrying them in...

Heat and burn time.... They are hot, real hot, its pine. Burn time is not that great, infact I can get 20 total blocks on my stove (12pk's), and I can only expect 7-8hrs of burn from them.

I forget what I paid, but Im going to guess $250-300... The average price of a ton of bricks. Again, they claim each pallet is equal to a cord, so I paid $250-300 for a cord of pine.

The stove shop stopped stocking them after the first delivery based on 100% negative reviews..

So... Its an ejp1234 don't buy product. They are 3yrs old now, and I use them sparringly as fire starters like this morning!

Nah, you can google them and same type of reviews pop up. They are not as "compressed" as the other brands.

Its pine, they take right off. Especially being so horribly compressed.

I’ve burned Eco bricks and Envi blocks in the past and those are both very good products. A little expensive but if you needed dry wood in a pinch or don’t want to deal with the mess of regular firewood then these may be for you. That crown product looks terrible.

don't know or had any experience with the Crown product. as for being made from pine really makes no difference in final product. while one foot of a pine tree is lighter than one foot of oak and will burn much quicker . a 2# brick of either will burn at roughly the same rate. 2#'s of either should also contain roughly the same BTU's. the lewis product i'm burning is 100% white pine and burns great. they also can double as an air freshener by leaving a bag in your trunk, much better than those little convenience store green trees>

Very interesting, I know there are wood pellets of course, but I never knew there were bricks. I learn something new every day. (or try to) And this is it for today.
