Just picked up a slightly used one, 7.5HP unit. Claimed to do 3". In all reality, what should I expect from it? I've not even seen it in person, had my BIL pick it up today. He'll bring it up from Denver on Sunday. He did say it looked new and the seller said it had approx. 1 hr. run time. So, what's realistic as far as capacity? I'd be happy with 1". Thanks, JB
It should do fine. Check the cutter knife(s) and sharpen if needed. I just picked up a 10 hp and it works great on fresh cut and dead branches. Does the trick for me.
after you use it a few times chipping branches, about another hours use, you will be selling it or pushing into the back corner of the shed. The one I sold looked brand new too,
I think that they tend to sit until the next pile of branches accumulates. Not like a mower that is used every few days. More of an occasional use tool.
Oh man, what ironpony said. Hated mine, 8hp, wimpy and prone to clogging. I burn brush, much easier and relaxing.
Guess I'll have to let you know how this one works out. I have a house full of Montanan's, and the teenage boys had a hatchet party on the vegetation. If it pukes out, I'll go get the big Vermeer from the dump.
It will be slower than you would like, put the teenage boys on it ,grab a beer sit back and supervise
I used one similar to that a few years ago, it worked ok. It worked best on stuff that was half the rated capacity or punky, it did get the job done.
Picked it up, fired on first pull. Looks brand new. It's got a B/S 1450 and chewing through 2" Aspen like nothing. Performing much better than expected. Got the boys running it right now, they're actually having fun.
