It seems most people use compressed air to blow crap off their saws before they clean them with solvent or some cleaner. The only compressor I have is one of those small portable ones, it's a Porter Cable 6 gal 150psi, I guess they sell for about $100. Would this work to provide compressed air through one of those trigger gizmos? Any recommendation on one, if so? Or would I need a bigger compressor? Seems like it ought to be compressed air in a can, that could get expensive!

I think that would be plenty, may have to let it build air again but it's just a saw, shouldn't take much.

It sounds like the one I have, it will work. In the woods I'll use a groove cleaner on the bar, a small paint brush for the air filter and for cleaning off the inside, I use an old toothbrush.

I have used a 6 gal to clean saws before. Yes they work, for the air you need to clean a saw it should only cycle one or two times.

    As stated above ^^^

Should work fine, @150psi there's plenty of pressure, just not much volume.

    Short bursts.

I use my tiny makita all the time. Sounds like mine might be a bit smaller than yours. You just have to let it catch up every once in a while. No big deal at all

I have a 3 gal 100 psi at one house. $40 at HF. It's murder to blow a saw clean - constantly running and waiting for pressure. It's really just for airing up tires.
I have a 21 gal 125 psi at other house. $160 at HF. It's a joy to clean a whole saw w/o 1 cycle. It's run 2 decades with 1 oil change and replacing "pressure box" because diaphragm developed holes. They don't offer diaphragm as a part but whole new box was $8.

I have a small compressor. I only use it to inflate tires, blow things clean, and occasionally use an impact wrench. Cycles often, but my use is so limited I don't worry about it.

Ok, while we’re on this subject. I usually clean up my saws with air at the shop each time before I go out to cut any amount at all. Put on fresh chains, fill the tanks, clean air filters, grease nose sprockets, etc. . So my question is, does anyone here have a compressor that they take to the field or woods with them. Kinda like the ones on a service rig or mechanics truck. I’ve always thought that would be handy. Anyone know of a 12 volt compressor that is more than emergency tire inflator or for blowing up air mattresses

X2... that's the same compressor I have in my tractor shed. Works great for clean up saw or mower filter.

I keep thinking about buying one of those cheap little harbor freight compressors for blowing up tires and stuff but still haven't. I always just end up using our compressor at our shop which is a 100hp electric Sullair screw compressor....But it's nice just having things at home.

That's what I have. I shingled my roof with it and it works as an air blast well enough. I've used it to clean out dirt and sand from driveway cracks before filling with driveway crack goo. My first one I got over 15 years ago online, supposedly refurbed in Mexico, came with several nail guns. Just replaced it a few weeks ago.

For the price, the Husky ones at Home Depot work pretty well. The Harbor Freight ones are pretty much garbage and they aren't even much cheaper. They work ok for a bit then just fall apart, start leaking air everywhere. But yeah, try the Husky ones, I think they are $6.

Edit - I'm talking about blow guns

Got this one from HF ,7 bucks . It works great for cleaning saws and getting into tight space better than the other air guns I have .

The one I have probably came in the accessories kit from Walmart. Works great for blowing off saw or cleaning air box/filter on mower.
