Local tree guy dumps all the wood he cuts on his property and its free for the taking. I spotted some black locust in the back and I took 4 loads in the jeep. I threw I a few pieces of cherry and silver maple to fill in gaps.

That is huge! I'm envious, but I'd have a hard time dealing with that. I wish my town had a wood Santa Claus like that.

Some of those hunks were heavy. I weighed one when I got home and it registered at 110 pounds. Well worth the pain.

My system is get it on my hand truck, tip it into the car, and push. If I can't pick it up or get it on the hand truck, it's no go.

I just grunt and pick them up.

I can't figure out why my shoulder feels like it does right now.

That is a fantastic find, looking at the cracks in the end grain, you won't be needing too much drying time. I know the interior can still have moisture, but I'd say not too much. A great haul indeed.

It was probably standing dead. There were a few large trunk pieces with center rot I left behind. Should be nice and primo for 2019.

Wow. Keep that place in mind to check on now and then. A great place to find good firewood and a great price too!

I got a chuckle out of this line. Last fall I was attempting to wrangle 3'+ diameter rounds of sopping wet red oak. Even cut at 14" these suckers were a lot to handle on rocky hilly ground. In the beginning of the day they felt like they weighed 200lbs, by the end of the day they felt a lot heavier. I guess I need to add a scale to my list of crap I drag into the woods.

These were pretty dry other than the water between the bark. The bark was breaking off as I was rolling the rounds to my car and it smelled like rotting fish all the way home. Good job on lifting green red oak. I don't think I could muscle 200lbs of bucks.

Might help save a back...not a bad loading method. The loading starts at about 2 minutes.

I have done that, made a whole staircase out of bricks, cinderblocks, and short rounds, to load big heavy oak rounds.

A fair number of Craigslist free wood offerers stipulate there be no chainsawing on their property. And of course, no chainsawing at my dump. So, the need to get creative.

Fortunately that has not been a problem for me. Everybody around here wants the wood gone as quickly as possible and don't care if you run a saw. Most put on the CL add don't knock on the door or bother tenants just remove wood.
