Just bought a house with a Taylor 750 boiler. The PO has it set so that the circulation pump runs 24x7. Is that common? I bought an extra one to have on hand in case it fails.
Mine run 24/7 when it’s heating season I am going on 3 years and it’s still going. I think it helps keep the system regulated.
J bird is correct, the other reason to keep the pump running is in the event of a failure of damper etc. it helps avoid both hot spots & potential freeze ups. Proper water treatment is essential to long pump life. I'm on 4 years & no pump issues. Drain & fill every year & treat the water. I too keep a spare pump on the shelf. Spare damper solenoids as well.
I replaced a Taco 007 last year that runs pretty much 24/7 during the heating season. It was 10 seasons old. I just replaced another Taco 007 yesterday evening that probably runs 75% of the time during heating season. It was 11 seasons old. I know the Tacos are very reliable. Most zones don’t run that much so should last much longer. These two take the 190 degree heated water from the Wood boiler and move it to the buffer tank or the main distribution manifold which feeds all the zones. Mmmmmm Tacos.
I run a small Taco for my four zones it has a small bypass so that it does not cavitate if all zones are closed ,and has been running 24/7 for at least a dozen years or more !
When I had the OWB, the circulation pump (taco) ran continuously. Didn't matter if it was heating season or not, it ran 24/7 for years and years. Man, I miss the OWB!
I have a 2 Grundfos pumps on the boiler that run 24/7 and two other Grundfos pumps that run only when the house calls for heat. I think this is season 4 for them and they are still as smooth and quiet as the day I installed them.
Mine runs 24/7 during heating season. Started having some heating issues and decided to check the pump. Taco 007 lasted 9 years
