Never realized how bad these little suckers got up at the farm. Came across some DIY Carpenter Bee traps and they work like a charm. I'm still tempted to load some rice in some shotgun shells and have some fun. I even have a few here at my house hanging around my wood pile here. I need to build some more. Also WD40 does kill them but I am not fond of WD all over my house. Have 4 traps built with 20 dead so far in a week.
No bait. I Did read if you can kill one put it in the bottle that helps attract more. We use to use old badminton rackets to nail them then go step on them.
We had s metal roof put on last fall. That is confusing them. I have watched and heard them run in the edges of it.
I prefer a tennis racket also my labrador retriever chases them since they also like to make holes in the fence
I killed 2 that were chewing on our new carport yesterday. Given that bees are having a tough time in general and that we need pollinators for food production, I'm wondering if I can't install some sacrificial wood strips that would serve as houses for them while protecting my structure. I realize that encouraging them could backfire though. I actually admire the little guys, especially the males. There fearless and great fliers. I've killed many with a badminton racquet but have never felt good about it.
Can't believe how good these things work. I literally saw 2 wood bees this afternoon up there. I have 4 traps up and they have done a number on the colony. Yesterday I did wack 2 with a piece 1x2 wood. Just going to leave them up and let them work. Not sure if I should empty them out or just leave them. I can say when another 1 sees another in there they want in to.
Just a little update since it's been a few months. Carpenter Bees are dwindling up here . These traps are kicking it...
