Had the afternoon off from work so I got busy with some wood. Got some silver maple from a friends mom. She had it taken down a few weeks back and that tree guy doesn't clean up the wood. Resized_20211027_141428.jpeg
Probably another 3 or 4 loads there. This is the first time I've neatly stacked and packed my truck full and she was squating a bit too much for my comfort. Trucks rated for 3400 lb payload.
Also got some elm cut up that I had laying at the pile. Saved one log for milling around on.

The bark started peeling on this elm already and I cut the trees down 3 or 4 months ago. Hoping it will split a little better after letting it sit.
The rain was nice to work in. Beats the heat and the snow.

Your good, Silver Maple is about 3900# a cord & you are only around 1/2 cord. If you are concerned put some coil over shocks on or just buy a Ford… ;)

That’s a nice score of Silver Maple & Elm. I am burning some Silver Maple now. I don’t care to cut in the rain but a fella needs to do what they can when they can.

I would let it sit for at least another year. We don't cut elm here until most or all of the bark has fallen off and then it split easy.

I cut down a dead standing elm for a guy the other day. I was thinking I’d probably have to give the wood to a friend that has a splitter. I thought I might as well take a couple swings at some rounds with the IsoCore and to my surprise it didn’t split to bad. It must travel been dead a couple years, most of the bark fell off. I now have some elm in the stacks!

Right there is the key to making elm into good firewood.

The bark on that elm is basically peeling off like a wet towel.

Got a little carried away with my pallets but I'm hoping they'll hold up. Theres enough room for three cord here.
