    Afternoon!

I've been hunting for a low cost woodburner for my basement. I found this Princess on marketplace that isn't too far from me.

It appears to be an older model. Does anyone know if these are in any way comparable to the modern cat unit?

I'm on a budget, as my wife won't let me drop the coin to go buy a new efficient one because "we don't need another woodburner". That being said, I don't want an old smoke dragon that will eat wood like crazy. If I had my way, I'd have a new Princess or possibly even a Woodstock cat unit down there.

See attached photo. All feedback is greatly appreciated!

FYI - this will only be my 3rd woodburner klin the house.

Fisher Baby Bear in the 24x24 garage

Buck 74 in the living room.

    House is 2800ft 2 story.

A good sized unit in the basement would really be the most effective of them all.

That looks like an 80s “smoke dragon” style, yes. My parents have one and it’s a heater for sure. It goes through a lot of wood and doesn’t burn clean.

Yes, that looks like the older BK King insert we had. It was likely 80's or older but it did have a cat.

    Thanks for the replies.

Sounds like this is not a good option as I am not looking to consume a lot of wood. I love when they smoke heavily (my Fisher on startup is the best!) but since I will be lugging wood into the basement, I'd prefer a more efficient unit.

Look for a used Lopi, Avalon, or other quality EPA stove. Bigger is better for a basement setup.

Those old Blaze Kings were awesome. I’d only use one for a barn, cabin, or cottage at this point, though.

I'd work on the wife over that dropping more coin issue! I'd recommend a nice supper outing. Perhaps a few glasses of wine....
May as well install the stove you truly want.

Maybe throw in some 50 shades of grey BDSM furniture to go with that nice new warm heater for the basement ?
