Is it okay to put something like linseed oil on a birdhouse? I'd like to put something on it to resist the weather a bit but don't want to paint it.

Something like Thompson's Water seal would work better.

Right where I want to be.
I don't see why something on the outside would be a problem. Presuming that's what the plan is, of course.
One of our Gdaughter's painted one and there's a little bird flying in and out of it quite often. Sparrow, chickadee, Finch.......don't know.
We have another that was here when we moved in that doesn't look like it's ever have anything on it, that was used every year. It finally bit the dust this year.
