Good morning hoarders. long post warning…
I haven’t been around the forum much these past few months. For those that know me, I’ve worked as Dir of Maint for a small school district located all on one 65 acre property with around 200,000 sq ft of building space. I really enjoyed my role, and that I got to be a positive impact in kids and teachers lives. I was 14 years away from full pension and happy.
For 10+ years, on and off, I’ve served on a board of directors of a Christian camp called, Timberlake Ranch Camp. In may, the board asked me to consider coming on staff full time, primarily as a fund raiser, but with more to come.
I initially said no way, as it just didn’t make sense. But over a month of prayer and seeking counsel, God made it clear to my wife, and I, that we were to follow Christ in this new role. The board made me Director and I began my near career in Sept.
It’s a 20 minute drive, and I spend one or two days a week at camp, a day or so planning and calling from my home office, and the goal is 1-2 days a week visiting churches and people who partner with us in ministry. It’s been fun, very challenging, and a wild change from task driven work to ministry. We have a small year round staff of 5, that I help lead. Camp has an administrator who’s been lead for about 3 years so she wasn’t too excited, at first, when she was told she had a new boss. But she’s seen how I lead and we are slowing finding our “lanes” and she handles the day to day stuff while I’m big picture, vision stuff.

The one extra positive is camp is just over 500 acres and half of it is heavily wooded which is rare for Nebraska.

Here’s a link to a video of me, that talks a bit more about Timberlake.

Congratulations. Even more opportunities to bless and impact lives for good and for God. The best place you can be is in the center of God's will. So glad He made it plain for you to see where He was leading.

Congrats on the new career. With that much woods are you allowed to scrounge there?

Sorry, thinking like a hoarder here.

Oh yeah. There’s tons of dead n down. Unfortunately, most is cedar. My goal was to start bringing at least a pick up load home every week, but so far I haven’t done that

    That sounds awesome! 500 acres isn't a camp it's a town...

Wow, Joel, this is really exciting news! I'm so glad to hear about this new adventure, and your new role as an administrator at the summer camp.
May God guide you in this (much needed) ministry.
