Added new wood hauler a couple of months ago. I call her Big Betty White. 2021GMC Sierra 2500HD 6.6L gas. Looking to upgrade from a travel trailer to a 5th wheel in a year or so. Figured I make the jump now.
Very nice!!! I have a neighbor just bought the Chevy and it looks exactly like the GMC, white , same bumpers and step side. I think his has the 6.6 gas motor in it. Beautiful...
Nice truck! I’d be curious to hear the mileage when you pull heavy. What size 5th are you looking at? Have you weighed the truck yet to see how much pin weight you have room for?
Looking at under 30ft 10k loaded weight. Listed pin weight on the couple I have narrowed my search to have all been under 1600lb. Truck payload is 3265lbs.
Plenty of truck for that! Nothing like watching a 2500 srw pulling a triple axle toy hauler. My classic 2500hd with a duramax has lousy payload. I’m just about over with a 33’ light weight cougar loaded with the family. Full tank and family it tips at 7400lbs, 9200 GVWR…not a lot left at that point. Aftermarket brakes and a one ton spring pack make it safe but none of that matter should the law ever need to get involved.
Very true, and a lot of people don't think about that. Those older HD's are a bit limited on payload and being a diesel doesn't help. The 5vers I'm looking at are advertised as "half ton" towable. Empty may be but even that is stretching it.
I camp a lot and have seen my fair share of F150 eco boost trucks with max tow pulling 5vers. Most that I’ve talked to have never ran them over a scale.
I too named mine "Betty White" 2020 ram 2500 6.4V8 Was an upgrade from an 07 5.7V8 Very happy with it. Impressive improvement from the previous truck. The 07 did the job, but this one even more so and so smooth. Also upgraded from a 25ft 5000lb. bumper pull rv to a 42ft 12,000lb. 5th wheel I'm getting 12.8 mpg with the new rv in tow. Pulls great uphill as well. Runs roughly 1800 rpm on the flats and about 2500 rpm uphill. 3000 rpm up steep hills. Loving the 8spd transmission.
Dewittmichiganwood good looking rig. GM stuck with their tried and true 6 speed coupled to the gas engine. It shift butter smooth so far and always seems to be in the right gear. I haven't worked it to hard yet as my travel trailer is only 6000# fully loaded. I have heard other say they wish it had more gears or a lower geared final ratio, current generation is 3.73.
Dakota Hoarder I use my utility trailer, but the truck pulls it where needed. Not to mention the trailer is much lower to the ground than Big Betty White making loading and unloading much easier.
Same plan for hauling firewood. Load onto trailer. If not I use my little buggy/trailer for getting into the woods
That mileage is nothing short of remarkable. Most folks I talk to pulling that weight with any of the gassers get 8-9 mpg at best.
