My wood pile before & after this burning season...

The stacks when I was top covering them. Notice there are two trees in front of the stacks...

The same area this morning. Six empty 10' long frames on the ground & two almost empty. Also notice the hollow stump where the second tree used to be, it's rounds are stacked on the left.

    Same area after clean-up.

The hollow stump is now more easily visible. The top covered wood to the left is next season's fuel. Once the pollen drops I'll pull the top cover for the summer.

Now it is time to get some wood and start processing...

We are stuck in an endless but enjoyable loop. I enjoy the scrounge, felling, bucking, splitting, and stacking almost as much as sitting in front of the fire all winter long...

I think most on the forum enjoy the many aspects of the process. I've said many times if I calculated all my time and expenses it may not save me that much in my situation with natural gas heat but it is something I like to do.

I'm with ya there! I enjoy all steps of the process. Actually kinda bummed that my burning season will wrap up within a week. NG is cheap but my free scrounged wood is cheaper! (Unless you count the new saw I bought last spring and the splitter last fall:D.)

Welcome to the forum Sconnie Burner.

That saw and splitter will last many, many years so the cost spread out makes it actually a real deal. I know our splitter was purchased back in the 80's and we've had no repair cost at all. However, we'll have to put a new engine on soon. The saw is only about 15 years now so lots of good work in that yet.
