Or vice versa. I'm righthand dominant. Been splitting lefty since childhood. Can't tell you what Dad thought of it cuz he never told me........thankfully.
I also play (really played) hockey and lacrosse lefty but I shoot a gun and bow righty. When limbing out a tree, I swing righty and lefty depending on where the limbs are in relation to me. When I'm chopping kindling, I'm back to righty with a hatchet or short handing an axe. I brace the wood with my left hand and pull it away at the last second. Makes my wife cringe to see how close it comes. More than 50 years of splitting and no serious mishaps yet. (knocking on wood)
What technically makes a maul swing left handed vs right. I'm very right hand dominant swing a bat right but have been told I shovel lefty??? But my hand placement on a bat is right so my right hand is up and left at the knob. Why when I shovel/swing a maul is it left handed then if my right is closest to the business end just like a bat??? Straigten me out or were my multiple informants incorrect?
I'm a righty, but swing a bat, use a shovel, and split left handed. Used to drive my dad crazy. I play golf (poorly) right-handed but have taken a few swings left handed and think I could play about as well (or as poorly) that way. Shoot right-handed.
I am right handed when I write, hammer, eat or swing a bat. I swing an axe or maul left handed. Shovel left handed. I can shoot either way but default to left because I can focus faster. My son can hammer with either hand.
I'm a lefty, but I frequently swap between splitting left handed and right handed. I feel like switching back and forth helps keep me from wearing out as fast.
